| ALAM, the acronym for Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM), or Maritime Academy of Malaysia in English, is a one-stop maritime training centre for both sea-based and land-based personnel in technical, administrative and management education. It provides a comprehensive range of courses covering all aspects of the maritime industry and its related fields. Since its beginnings in 1983, it has become Malaysia's premier maritime training institution.
Owned and operated by PETRONAS' shipping subsidiary, MISC Berhad, ALAM is a designated Branch Campus of the World Maritime University in Sweden and has established formal alliances with other leading maritime education and training institutions in Australia, Norway, the Netherlands, Singapore and the United States of America.
As part of its commitment towards maintaining its world-class standards, the programmes conducted by ALAM are designed not only to meet but exceed the minimum level of skills and competencies as stipulated in the International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 1978 Convention and other relevant international standards and guidelines.
