GALERI PETRONAS Presents a Creative Collision of Art, Science and Mathematics

2017 Media Release - 5 May

GALERI PETRONAS today launched GOODEARTH: Expressions of Creative Energy, an exhibition that expresses the principle of minimalism through a series of sculptures and photographs. Featuring a cross-discipline between science and mathematics in art, the artworks carry ‘truth to material’ that are fundamental elements in the concept of Purism.

Speaking at the exhibition launch, PETRONAS President and CEO Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin said, “In advocating a culture of innovation, PETRONAS, through our business approach continuously seeks creative solutions in addressing the global energy demands amidst increasing challenges.

“In this regard, the GOODEARTH exhibition was conceptualised to bring together diverse ideas and artists who navigate through multiple disciplines that include the sciences, mathematics, technology and the arts. These innovators and trend-setters continue to challenge conventions. Through collaboration of ideas, skills and techniques, artistic intersections generate new ideas and understanding,” said Datuk Wan Zulkiflee.

Curated by Ernst Chin with the support of guest writers Shireen Naziree and Zhuang Wubin, the exhibition sees a collaboration of artists from diverse eras and backgrounds, coming together in expressing their appreciation for the unifying theme of GOODEARTH.

One of the highlights visitors can look forward to in this exhibition is the unveiling of Victor Vasarely’s timeless artworks from the PETRONAS Art Collection. Widely accepted as the leader of the optical art movement, seven of his artworks will be shown to the Malaysian public for the very first time.

Other participating artists include Anthony Lau, Brother Joseph McNally, Victor Vasarely, Adolf Loos, Latiff Mohidin, Bangie anak Embol, Mad Anuar Ismail, Ramlan Abdullah, Raja Shahriman Raja Aziddin, Multhalib Musa, Sharmiza Abu Hassan, Bibi Chew, Edric Ong, Anniketyni Madian, Abdul Latiff Ahmad Padzali and Radzi Ismail (sculpture); Ismail Hashim, Eric Peris, Yusoff Othman, Arthur Teng, David Lok, Soraya Talismail, Mohammad Radzi Hanif and Mohd Ishak Mohd Din (photography).
