PETRONAS Contributes RM3.1M to Assist Deserving Students Nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 October 2018 – A total of 6,515 primary school students nationwide will be receiving learning support and school necessities under PETRONAS’ flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) education initiative namely Program Sentuhan Ilmu PETRONAS (PSIP)and Back to School programme.

The assistance amounting to RM3.1 million is contributed by PETRONAS, PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad and Badan Kebajikan Islam PETRONAS (BAKIP).

The Back to School programme will address the basic needs of less privileged students, as they prepare for the new school year.

PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Group Human Resource Management, Dato’ Raiha Azni Abd Rahman said: “Through our Back to School programme, we provide annual assistance of school supplies to equip students from identified schools throughout Malaysia.”

Meanwhile for PSIP, a series of activities will be rolled out in different states from 4-26 October 2018, in line with PETRONAS’ commitment to nurture students’ interest in Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Dato’ Raiha said: “PSIP is part of PETRONAS’ continuous efforts to contribute to the wellbeing of communities where it operates. It supports the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 to develop students to think critically and to apply their knowledge in different settings.”

Among the activities that would be conducted are STEM Fair, STEM Lab, STEM Workshop, science shows, interactive quizzes, and science and mathematical project offerings organised by Petrosains.

Selected teachers would also attend Teacher Professional Development workshops, which would expose them to STEM pedagogy.
