The highly anticipated event of the year, Orchid Run & Ride 2018, is returning for the fourth year to Persiaran KLCC, on Sunday, 23 September.
The annual event, themed 'United For A Cause – A Day with PETRONITA' is expected to attract 7,000 participants. Its primary objective is to raise funds for various charitable causes while promoting a healthy lifestyle. It also aims to raise more awareness on medical conditions affecting children and encourage the public to be involved in charities.
Organised by the Association of Wives and Women Staff of PETRONAS (PETRONITA), the event targets to raise at least RM250,000 to benefit non-profit organisations such as the Institute-HEARS (Institut Telinga, Pendengaran dan Pertuturan), the Mobile Dental Clinic for Special Needs Children by the Dental Faculty of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), and the Home Equipment Loan Programme (HELP) founded by University Malaya Medical Centre.
The funds raised will contribute towards the purchase of batteries for hearing aid devices for children, operation of UiTM's mobile dental clinic and also home respiratory equipment assistance.
"Every year, Orchid Run & Ride brings the Malaysian public together to advocate a healthy lifestyle, coupled with a unique opportunity to give back to society. The run promotes wellness, networking and charity in a fun, casual environment," said Puan Sri Dr Azura Ahmad Tajuddin, Yang Di-Pertua of PETRONITA.Orchid Run & Ride has, over the years, attracted an increasing number of participants in three main categories:
- Category A – 12km Run: Men's and Women's Open (open to ages 16 years and above)
- Category B – 5km Fun Run: (open to ages seven years and above) and
- Category C – 5km Fun Ride (for ages 12 years and above)
Similar to previous years, places for both 5km categories were sold out upon its launch in June, while spots for the 12km event are selling fast.
There will also be a special performance by Malaysian rapper Altimet, a warm-up session by celebrity fitness instructor, Nana Al-Haleq and an exciting appearance by Drum Circle, a percussionist group.
