About Liquefied Natural Gas

The global push for a low-carbon future is accelerating the energy transition towards cleaner energy sources such as natural gas.

Necessary to succeed in this shift is having a reliable energy solutions partner who goes the extra mile to enable a smooth transition

With close to 40 years of industry leadership, PETRONAS continues to go Above and Beyond to provide a reliable supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) around the world.

This is enabled through PETRONAS’ focus on customer-centricity and flexibility which have supported new adopters of LNG with tailored solutions, ensuring that the benefits of this cleaner energy can be felt by businesses of all sizes.

To date, PETRONAS has delivered over 11,500 LNG cargoes safely across the world from our portfolio of global LNG assets. The bedrock of our operations, the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Bintulu, Sarawak, is one of the world’s largest LNG facilities in a single location. We are also the world’s first owner and operator of two floating LNG facilities, PFLNG Satu and PFLNG Dua that enables us to unlock marginal and stranded gas fields.

Our Global Portfolio of LNG Facilities

PETRONAS LNG Complex, Bintulu, Sarawak

The PETRONAS LNG Complex, is one of the largest LNG production facility in one location spread over 276 hectares of land. PLC is located at Bintulu, Sarawak and forms the bedrock of our supply reliability, with a production capacity of approximately 30 million tonnes per annum.

PLC is also strategically located and in close proximity to key demand centres such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Southeast Asia as well as South Asia.

In 2021, PETRONAS, signed a 20-year agreement to purchase 90MW of electricity supply generated using renewable sources from Sarawak Energy Berhad, that will commence in 2024. The electricity purchase agreement will see PLC reduce its consumption of fossil fuels and achieve a potential reduction of 0.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) in Green House Gas emissions annually.

PETRONAS Floating LNG SATU and DUA

The PETRONAS Floating LNG (PFLNG) is akin to a movable floating LNG production plant and enables PETRONAS to sustainably produce LNG from stranded and hard-to-reach natural gas reserves, while far out at sea.

PETRONAS established its expertise in FLNG solutions with the introduction of the world’s first FLNG, PFLNG SATU, in 2017 and extended its leadership in 2020, with the introduction of its second floating LNG, PFLNG DUA, which enables PETRONAS to unlock even deeper gas reserves.

PFLNG SATU is currently operating at water depths of 70 to 200 meters at the Kebabangan gas field, offshore Sabah.

PFLNG DUA, the world’s first deep-water FLNG, is currently operating at water depths up to 1,500 meters at the Rotan gas field, Sabah and produced its first LNG cargo in March 2021.
