Downhole CO2 Logging Assessment in Supporting of PETRONAS CCS Agenda (TC19)

2026 Announcement - 19 Jun

Pain points:

Currently there is no technology available that can continuously measure and quantify CO2 saturation and volume directly downhole (in-situ). Existing methods rely on indirect discreet measurements, fluid sampling (e.g., MDT), and Lab-based PVT analysis which are time consuming, costly and incomplete.

Requirements:

PETRONAS is seeking integrated technology solutions in terms of processing, simulation or forward modelling results (short term) and new innovative measurement/hardware system (long term) that can measure and quantify continuous CO2 at downhole in-situ condition in virgin, producing, and depleted reservoirs, with a focus on CO2 characterization and facilities optimization during pre-injection stage, CO2 plume monitoring post injection stage and feasibility of CO2 storage. The solutions can be derived from the existing technology owned by the vendor or can be new and innovative solutions uniquely adopted and patented by the vendor.

Winner:

No Winning Solution: Despite the participation and effort of those who submitted solutions, none met the necessary requirements for this challenge at current time.
