Autonomous drone capable of performing ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurement at height (TC6)

2020 Success Stories - 27 Oct

Pain Points:

Manual ultrasonic thickness (UT) measurements at height in PETRONAS operations are hazardous (abseiling/scaffolding), time-consuming, expensive, and limited by accessibility.

Requirements:

A solution is needed to improve the safety and efficiency of UT measurements at height by reducing HSE risks, enhancing efficiency/data quality, improving accessibility, reducing costs, and automating measurement with a drone.

Winner:

Al-Khawarizmi (UKM) with an "Autonomous Drone Capable of Performing Ultrasonic Thickness (UT) Measurement at Height." This drone performs autonomous UT measurements, maneuvers around obstacles, improves safety/efficiency, and will be scaled for real-world use.
