Compact refrigeration system for natural gas processing (TC10)

2020 Success Stories - 1 Nov

Pain Points:

Cryogenic distillation of high CO2/N2 natural gas is energy-intensive (low temp), has high capital costs, and requires large, complex refrigeration systems unsuitable for offshore use.

Requirements:

A compact, efficient refrigeration system is needed to reduce energy use and capital costs for cryogenic distillation, minimise footprint/complexity for offshore suitability, and be economically viable for developing low-quality gas fields.

Winner:

Gasconsult Limited's "Zero Refrigerant LNG (ZR-LNG)" eliminates external refrigerants, uses natural gas feed as refrigerant, reduces equipment count/footprint/complexity, lowers capital costs, and enables economical development of challenging gas fields.
