Technology solution for speciation of chloride along the liquid hydrocarbon value chain (TC17)

2022 Success Stories - 2 Aug

Pain Points:

Historical data indicates that crude and condensate feeding to CDU, VDU, and downstream atmospheric columns contain carryover of organic and inorganic chlorides (max 1.2ptb on average), which are not fully removed at the Desalter. The lack of a comprehensive database and standard test methods for chloride distribution and speciation across the liquid hydrocarbon value chain has led to HCl corrosion in overhead systems.

Requirements:

The anticipated solution should involve sampling crude oil and liquid hydrocarbon streams across the value chain, identifying and mapping chloride distribution from upstream to downstream processes, applying advanced analytical technology to quantify chloride speciation, and implementing predictive and prescriptive online chloride monitoring.

Winner:

AmSpec Inspection Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Their technology differentiates organic/inorganic chlorides in light/medium distillates and has potential as a standard test for oil/gas applications.
