2 Tonnes of Washed-Up Debris Collected
Pengerang, Johor, 31 October 2016 – A group of PETRONAS staff, contractors and members of the community took to the beach over the weekend to do their part in cleaning up the Tanjung Setapa shoreline here.
As an effort of the clean-up, a total of 2 tonnes of washed-up debris was collected across the 2.5-kilometre shoreline.
"The clean-up at Tanjung Setapa was initiated by PETRONAS Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) with an objective to instil awareness and commitment among staff from PETRONAS and its contractors, as well as members of the surrounding community, on environmental protection and conservation," said Head of Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE), PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation Sdn Bhd (PRPC), Encik Saifuddin Shah Sowkkatali.
"It is also to promote a sense of togetherness in protecting the environment and marine ecosystem for Pengerang," he said, adding that it was an effort of PIC's corporate social investment (CSI) under the larger #ForPengerang initiative.
About 250 engineers and executives from PETRONAS and contractors, as well as community leaders and representatives, took part in the beach cleaning.
Also present to roll up their sleeves and joined the clean-up were PETRONAS Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of PRPC, Ir Dr Colin Wong Hee Huing; Head of Stakeholder, Communications and Risk Management, PRPC, Puan Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz; and Project Management Consultant (PMC) Programme Director, Mr Alec Butler.
Tanjung Setapa houses the Material Offloading Facility (MOLF) port for PIC. Together with another MOLF port at Teluk Ramunia, both facilities are built for the purpose to receive heavy cargoes via sea passage, and able to handle a combined 4 million tonnes of cargoes for PIC during the construction phase.
