PETRONAS has been made aware of multiple occasions of unauthorised and fraudulent use of our company name and logo, as well as the name and image of our President and Group CEO, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik.

Many of these incidents involve the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) software to impersonate PETRONAS officials, typically by altering and manipulating their image and voice. Images of PETRONAS officials are also being misused to create fake social messaging accounts to mislead the public.

Such manipulated images and untrue messages are being circulated on the internet particularly on social media platforms and social messaging channels with the intent of manipulating the public to participate in scams and non-existent investment schemes.

Police reports are being lodged with regard to these instances of misuse.

PETRONAS wishes to urge the public to be on high alert and heighten scrutiny, and rely only on PETRONAS' official communication channels for information.

PETRONAS has been made aware of another online investment scam that is currently circulating on WhatsApp involving the unauthorised use of our company name and logo, as well as the name of our President and Group CEO, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik.  
 
The message includes a fake news report claiming to be from The Star with the headline "SPECIAL REPORT: PETRONAS opens joint investment platform with government support!" and highlights a scheme that promises returns through weekly investments in government operations related to LNG production.

The report also includes a fake video of Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, with his image and voice manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI) software.

A police report has been lodged on the matter. Meanwhile, the management of PETRONAS wishes to clarify and stress that there is no such investment platform from PETRONAS and would like to urge the public not to respond to this fake investment scheme.

PETRONAS has been made aware that an individual claiming to be an employee has been circulating an email inviting companies to register as vendors, suppliers and "intending partners" with PETRONAS and participate in a Vendor Questionnaire and Acknowledgement Form

PETRONAS is not in any way affiliated with the individual nor has it authorised such letter of request and urge the recipients to not respond to the fraudulent e-mail.

We wish to inform that PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB) and its subsidiaries have not, at current, planned and issued any proposal or tender for the said project. As a gas infrastructure company, PGB is under the purview of Energy Commission (EC) pursuant to The Gas Supply Act (Amendment) 2016 and Third Party Access (TPA) Code. Any projects in relation to regulated pipelines shall be approved by EC.

PGB never submitted any proposal for the said project and have not appointed any entity on behalf of PGB to expedite any related tender or documents of the project.

PETRONAS has been made aware that its partners, industry players and other stakeholders have been approached by publishing houses with invitations to participate or advertise in publications positioned to commemorate or celebrate special occasions in PETRONAS.

PETRONAS is not in any way affiliated with any of these publishing houses and has not authorised or endorsed any of the proposed publications. Therefore, PETRONAS would advise its partners, industry players and stakeholders to conduct due diligence in relation to the invitations by the publishing houses.

PETRONAS has been made aware of unauthorised individuals or organisations falsely using PETRONAS name and logo in emails that are currently in circulation in an attempt to attract and scam interested job seekers or members of the public by soliciting up-front fees for application of immigration documents such as visa or work permit for expatriate posting within PETRONAS Group-wide.

We wish to stress that PETRONAS has not authorised such e-mail-based recruitment and would NEVER request money transfers or payment of any kind from applicants for recruitment or other purposes. We also urge the public to be vigilant and not to respond to such fraudulent emails. 

Email communication on recruitment from PETRONAS, if any, would be sent by PETRONAS officials using only e-mail domains of @petronas.com. PETRONAS has been made aware of the unauthorised use of PETRONAS and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS (MAMGP) Formula One Team logos on merchandise and items, including apparels and Touch n’ Go NFC cards sold on online sites.

As such, PETRONAS cannot and will not accept any responsibility for issues arising from or related to the purchases of these merchandise or items.

PETRONAS is also communicating with the relevant authorities on this matter.

We have been made aware of deceptive sites hosting Android malware purportedly selling PETRONAS merchandise.

These sites would offer bogus deals such as an “All-Inclusive Car Service Package,” whereby victims would have to click on a booking link that downloads a malicious app into their mobile devices for them to receive the deals. By installing the app and making a payment for their purchases, the scammer will capture and steal the victims’ online credentials, credit card information as well as take over SMS functionality for one-time PINS (OTPs).

We wish to inform that these sites are a scam and neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies have authorised them.

We appeal to the public not to interact with these malicious sites.

PETRONAS has communicated with the authorities regarding this matter.

Laman sesawang ini menawarkan promosi palsu seperti ‘Pakej Servis Penuh Kereta’ dan meminta mangsa untuk memuat turun aplikasi melalui pautan di laman sesawang.

Jika mangsa memuat turun aplikasi dan membuat pembayaran, ia akan mendedahkan maklumat peribadi, akaun bank dan kad kredit mangsa serta mengambil alih fungsi SMS bagi kata laluan sekali guna (“OTP”).

It has come to our attention that there are fake social media accounts posing as PETRONAS President and Group CEO Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik.

The management of PETRONAS would like to clarify that Datuk Tengku Taufik currently has no social media accounts in his professional capacity as the President and Group CEO of PETRONAS.

We would like to urge everyone not to follow these fake accounts.

Fake accounts can be used as platforms to share false information and obtain or misuse your own personal information as well. These accounts can also be sold to other unscrupulous parties.

PETRONAS has been made aware of a scam website post using our Company name and logo that is offering monetary compensation for answering a "PETRONAS Government subsidies!" questionnaire.

We wish to inform that neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies are involved in this "survey", and we appeal to the public not to respond or take part.

PETRONAS has lodged a report with the authorities on this matter.

We have been made aware of a letter on a fake PETRONAS letterhead bearing forged signatures of PETRONAS leaders being circulated to companies requesting them to place an advertisement in "Forbes Industrial” magazine, purportedly in conjunction with an editorial feature on PETRONAS.

We wish to inform that neither PETRONAS nor any of its subsidiaries within the Group of Companies has authorised such a letter or any other advertising solicitation and appeal to recipients of the letter not to respond to it.

It has come to our attention that an individual alleging to be an employee and consultant of PETRONAS in China had organised business meetings under the names “PETRONAS Specialty Chemical” or “Industry Park investment project”.

We wish to alert members of the public that this is a scam, and the individual does not represent PETRONAS’ interests whether as an employee or a consultant. Relevant authorities have been informed of this matter and investigations are currently ongoing.

PETRONAS has been made aware of the unauthorised use of our Company name and logo in the promotion of investment platforms on the Internet.

These investment schemes purport to provide opportunities to profit by investing in "PETRONAS shares" with amounts ranging from RM1,000 to RM4,000, or generate a second-income with just a fee of $250.

We appeal to the public not to respond to these schemes.

Neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies are involved or associated in any way with these websites and social media accounts.

PETRONAS has been made aware of a scam website post offering a 'new year gift' in the form of monetary compensation for answering a questionnaire.

We wish to inform that neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies are involved in this "survey", and we appeal to the public not to respond or take part.

PETRONAS has been made aware of the circulation of a fraudulent letter and a supporting document purportedly from our management advising the next-of-kin recipient(s) to pay a certain amount of money to PETRONAS for damages caused by their late relative(s) while performing work for PETRONAS.

The damage compensation must be paid before PETRONAS could release to the next-of-kin the “contract funds” owed to the late relative(s).

PETRONAS would like to inform that this is another form of scam by irresponsible individual(s) and advise members of the public not to respond to the documents.

PETRONAS has communicated with the authorities on this matter.

PETRONAS has been made aware of a scam online “survey” conducted supposedly in conjunction with “PETRONAS' 50th Anniversary”.

We wish to inform that neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies are involved in this “survey”, and we appeal to the public not to respond or take part.

PETRONAS has been made aware of unauthorised use of our Company’s logo as well as a mention of our Company in a video of an allegedly former PETRONAS staff who benefitted from what could appear to be a gambling scheme.

We wish to alert members of the public the content of the video is false, untrue and completely baseless. It is probably a scam devised by unscrupulous individuals or parties.

We appeal to the public not to respond to this scam on WhatsApp or possibly other social media platforms and wish to stress that the claims made in the video are fraudulent and was maliciously published.

In addition, neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies, are involved or associated in any way, with the circulated content.

PETRONAS is also communicating with the relevant authorities on this matter.

It has come to our attention that an individual alleging to be an employee of PETRONAS, has been executing transactions for electrical items which are claimed to be procured for PETRONAS.

We wish to alert members of the public that this is an ongoing scam. Please note that no such transaction has been made by PETRONAS or any of its employees.

We appeal to the public not to succumb to this scam. Neither PETRONAS nor its subsidiaries are involved or associated in any way with these transactions.

Relevant authorities have been informed of this matter.

It has come to our attention of an online news report fraudulently associating PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) MD/CEO, Datuk Sazali Hamzah in an investment scheme via an automated bitcoin trading platform.

We wish to alert members of the public of this fraudulent claim.

PETRONAS, its subsidiaries and personnel are not involved or associated in any way with the investment scheme and relevant authorities have been informed.

It has come to our attention that an email purporting to be from PETR​ONAS mail is in circulation, requesting for quotations on one of PETRONAS projects. Please note that no such request has been made by PETRONAS.

Our investigation confirms that the email is spoofed and its attachment contains miscellaneous file. Email spoofing is the forgery of an email header or address so that the email appears to have originated from someone or somewhere other than the actual source.

As a precaution, we urge that you DO NOT respond to the email, click on any links, or open any attachments contained within the email.

Please report any suspicious emails relating to PETRONAS request for quotations to lrs_enquiries@petronas.com.

Registered and Licensed Vendors may also confirm the invitation to quote by logging into the PETRONAS SUS Portal at here.

PETRONAS has been made aware of unauthorized individuals or organisations falsely using the PETRONAS and PRPC Utilities and Facilities Sdn Bhd’s (“PRPC UF”) name and letterhead in relation to the construction of an Integrated Healthcare Facilities (“IHF”) and Temporary ​Workers Accommodation (“TWA”) in PIC.

PETRONAS and its group of companies would like to alert members of the public that they are not undertaking the construction of or any new TWA in PIC. We further wish to inform that we do not appoint third party individuals, companies, organisations or firms as representative(s) or agents or middlemen to represent, act, negotiate or conduct on our behalf in any business dealings or contracts related to any of our projects in PIC and Pengerang, Johor.

PETRONAS wishes to alert members of the public that the e-mail communications on "PETRONAS Secured Online Promotion" currently circulating on the Internet is a scam devised by unscrupulous individual or parties.

The scam e-mail also contains details of a claims agent to be contacted for assistance and disbursement of the alleged prize.

PETRONAS wishes to inform that neither PETRONAS nor any subsidiary within its Group of Companies in any of the countries we operate in has conducted or authorised such prize redemption schemes and appeals to the public not to respond to the email.

Only trust emails by official PETRONAS personnel using e-mail domains of @petronas.com.my.

This advice also extends to all e-mail or short message service (SMS) communications using PETRONAS' name in other prize redemption schemes, lucky draws or contests.

PETRONAS has communicated with the authorities on this matter.

PETRONAS has been made aware of the issuance of a sponsorship request letter by a certain unauthorised third party, purportedly made in the name, or on behalf, of PETRONAS.

We wish to inform that neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies, has authorised such a letter and would appeal to the public not to respond to it.

PETRONAS has been made aware of a scam attempt using our company name.

We wish to inform that neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies are involved in this supposed promotion.

We appeal to the public not to respond to it as this is a scam.

PETRONAS has been made aware of attempts by a number of parties that have taken upon themselves to independently produce commemorative publications to celebrate PETRONAS' anniversary. These parties are seeking sponsorship to fund the production of such publications and are primarily targeting oil and gas companies, many of which PETRONAS frequently engages with.

We wish to inform that neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies, has authorised or endorsed any such publication and would like to appeal to the public not to respond to it.

PETRONAS has been made aware of irresponsible acts of certain parties misrepresenting its business set up and passing off as the joint venture company between PETRONAS and Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and soliciting business proposals and payment of deposit(s).

Please be advised that PETRONAS DOES NOT directly or through its subsidiaries or associate companies, appoint third party individuals or companies or firms as representative(s) or agents or middlemen to represent or act or negotiate or conduct on behalf any business dealings or contracts related to our joint ventures with Saudi Aramco in Pengerang, Johor.

We wish to alert members of the public that this is an ongoing scam devised by unscrupulous individuals or parties.

We appeal to the public not to respond to this scam and wish to stress that neither PETRONAS nor any of our subsidiaries within the Group of Companies, are involved or associated in any way, with this website and its content.   

PETRONAS is not involved or associated in any way with any cryptocurrency or block-chain technology platform and will not invite members of the public to invest in the same.
