PETRONAS’ PAMER Successfully Achieves 600,000 Safe Manhours

KOTA TINGGI, 28 APRIL 2015 – PETRONAS' Raw Water Project for Refinery and Petrochemicals Integrated Development (RAPID) or Projek Air Mentah RAPID (PAMER) today feted its contractors, Konsortium Asia Baru – PPC JV, for successfully achieving 600,000 Safe Manhours without Lost Time Injury (LTI) on 27 March 2015, in a celebration held at PAMER's site office at Seluyut, Kota Tinggi, Johor.
 
28 April 2015 was specifically chosen as it was the annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2015, an annual international campaign to promote safe, healthy and decent work, observed by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
 
The event also saw the launch of PAMER's Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Day as well as the officiating of the PAMER Site Office by Juniwati Rahmat Hussin, PETRONAS Vice President and Venture Director for Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC).
 
"The achievement of the 600,000 safe manhours without LTI is no easy feat, and is testament to PETRONAS' strict adherence to the most stringent guidelines on HSE," stated Juniwati during her launch of the event.
 
"We ensure that all our contractors are on board as well through our HSE campaigns and trainings, as we want everyone to be able to get home safe and well," continued Juniwati.
 
Awards for Outstanding Employee, Saifulnizam Mohamad and Best Team, Regal Profile B was awarded by Datuk Ir. Haji Hasni bin Haji Mohammad, Johor State EXCO Council member and Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kerja Raya, Kemajuan Luar Bandar dan Wilayah Negeri Johor. Also present were YB Hajjah Asiah Ahmad Arif, Johor State EXCO Council member and Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Pembangunan Wanita, Keluarga dan Masyarakat Negeri Johor, Haji Noorazam Dato' Osman, Kota Tinggi District Officer, YB Dato' Syed Sis Syed A Rahman, State Assemblyman for Tanjung Surat and YB Haji Rasman Ithnain, State Assemblyman for Sedili.
 
PAMER is targeted to be completed by end May 2016. Once completed, PAMER will supply 260 million litres per day of raw water to PIC, as well as supplement both Johor State's existing water supply for public consumption as well as catering for future growth in PIPC and surrounding users.
 
The event also saw the kick-off for the Working at Height campaign which will run throughout the duration of the PAMER project. Exhibition booths were also available at the site to educate the workers on HSE awareness, with Johor state agencies such as Jabatan Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan, Agensi Antidadah Kebangsaan, Hospital Kota Tinggi and Pejabat Kesihatan Kota Tinggi as well as Public Mutual Insurance taking part.
 
RAPID is part of PETRONAS' mammoth Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) development, and PAMER is one of the six (6) associated facilities for RAPID; and a critical and urgently required infrastructure to support and ensure PIC is completed and operational as scheduled.
PIC forms part of the Johor State's Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC), which is under Malaysia's Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) to establish new engines of growth for Malaysia; whilst meeting future energy requirement and strengthening PETRONAS' position as a key player in the Asian chemicals market, focusing on differentiated and specialty chemicals.
 
World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2015 aims to build a national culture of prevention on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), one in which the right to a safe and healthy working environment is respected at all levels, where government, employers and workers actively participate in securing a safe and healthy working environment through responsibilities and duties, and where the highest priority is accorded to the principle of prevention.
