Bandar Penawar, 19 November 2018 – PETRONAS, together with Pengerang Refining and Petrochemical (PRefChem), jointly brought smiles to 550 schoolchildren from the Kota Tinggi area in Johor, through their inaugural Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) effort, "Program Jom Naik Sekolah".
Held at Dewan Bandaran Kejora here, the event saw students from 27 schools receiving two sets of school uniforms, two pairs of shoes and a school bag each. A total of 86 schoolchildren from the Orang Seletar community were among the beneficiaries.
The school uniforms were sourced locally from 12 members from Persatuan Peniaga and Usahawan Kejora (MyCraft PuPUK) who custom-made the uniforms, as part of the creation of business opportunity for the local community.
The contributions were presented by Head of Manufacturing & Engineering of PRefChem, Encik Ahmad Farid Yaacob.
"We hope that by providing these basic necessities, the children will look forward to the new academic year and continue to feel motivated to achieve success in their studies. The programme demonstrates the companies' commitment to contribute to improving the well-being of the communities that reside in the area where they operate," said Encik Ahmad Farid.
Also present was Deputy Director, Department of Education, Johor State, Encik Azman Adnan, who expressed his gratitude to PETRONAS and PRefChem for organising the programme.
