The items were presented by PETRONAS representative, Syed Mohd Kamal AlHabshi Syed Abd Rahman on behalf of Vice President and Venture Director of Pengerang Integrated Complex, Juniwati Rahmat Hussin.
The Back to School programme in Pengerang also provided business opportunities to local entrepreneurs through two Pusat Jahitan Waqaf Komuniti (community tailoring centres) in Johor that helped put together the 102 pairs of custom-tailored school uniforms. The tailoring centres in Bukit Dahlia, Pasir Gudang and Bukit Tiram, Ulu Tiram were managed by Waqaf An-Nur Corporation Berhad (WANCorp), which provides relevant training to single mothers or women from low-income families at the centres.
In her speech delivered by Syed Mohd Kamal, Juniwati said: "It is in PETRONAS' DNA to develop communities wherever we operate. In pursuit of our business objectives, PETRONAS ensures the well-being and continuous development of the people through skills and capability building efforts that enable them to share the success of our projects."
"We at PETRONAS hope that this Back To School Programme will alleviate the financial burden of parents in preparing for the new academic year. We encourage students here today to excel in their studies and seize future opportunities to be a part of PETRONAS' workforce, especially here in Pengerang."
The Back to School Programme is part of a signature CSR initiative, Program Sentuhan Ilmu PETRONAS (PSIP), a long-term sustainable programme aimed at developing human capital potentials wherever PETRONAS operates. The PSIP aims to help borderline students to improve their academic performance and support the Malaysian Government's education vision to enhance the potential of students in a holistic way.
