KUALA LUMPUR, 11 May 2016 – PETRONAS today moved another step closer towards realising the development of the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) with the signing of three Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contracts for PIC's petrochemical plants.
Two EPCC contracts were signed between PETRONAS and a consortium of Samsung Engineering Co Ltd, Samsung C&T Corporation and Samsung Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd for a linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant and an ethylene oxide ethylene glycol (EOEG) plant.
Meanwhile, another EPCC contract was signed by PETRONAS with a consortium of Tecnimont SpA, Huanqiu Contracting & Engineering Corporation, TECNIMONTHQC Sdn Bhd and TecnimontHQC S.c.a.r.l. for a polypropylene (PP) plant.
Both consortiums received their respective Letter of Award (LOA) from PRPC Polymers Sdn Bhd (for LLDPE and PP) and PRPC Glycols Sdn Bhd (for EOEG) late last year. The three plants are expected to be completed by early 2019.
Upon completion, the LLDPE plant will be able to produce 350,000 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LLDPE, the EOEG plant will produce 740,000 mtpa of Monoethylene Glycol (MEG) and the PP plant will produce 900,000 mtpa of homopolymer and copolymer polypropylene.
The contracts were signed in a ceremony at the PETRONAS Twin Towers. Signing on behalf of PRPC Polymers and PRPC Glycols was PETRONAS Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation Sdn Bhd (PRPC), Ir. Dr. Colin Wong Hee Huing.
