For the past decade, the Chinese New Year Community Programme at Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) has grown into something far more than a festive celebration. What began as a simple outreach initiative has become a meaningful tradition that continues to uplift the surrounding community.
Over the year, the programme has positively impacted more than 2,000 individuals from underprivileged Chinese families in Pengerang. Behind this milestone lies the collective efforts of PIC employees and partners who share a common goal, making a positive difference in the surrounding community.
This year’s celebration carried special meaning as the community welcomed the Year of the Horse, a symbol of strength and resilience. As part of the programme, 150 selected beneficiaries received specially prepared “Prosperity Care Packs” filled with essential groceries and daily necessities. For many families, these contributions help ease the financial burden that often come with festive preparations, allowing them to welcome the Lunar New Year with greater comfort and peace of mind.
The handover ceremony took place during a warm and lively community dinner attended by representatives from across PIC and members of the local community, alongside Johor State Education and Information Committee Chairman, Yang Berhormat Tuan Aznan Tamin. The evening was filled with festive cheer, from the rhythmic beats of a vibrant lion dance performance to the joyful tossing of yee sang, a tradition that symbolises prosperity and togetherness.
Moments like these go beyond celebration. They strengthen the bond between the industry and community, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness that has grown alongside the development of Pengerang.
The programme itself reflects a strong spirit of collaboration. This year’s programme was made possible through the collective efforts of PRPC, PRefChem, PT(2)SB), and PBSB, demonstrating how industry partnerships can extend beyond operations to create meaningful social impact.
For employees across PIC, stories like these serve as a reminder of the broader purpose behind the work we do every day. As PIC continues to grow as a major integrated industrial hub, the complex remains equally committed to growing alongside the surrounding community, ensuring that progress is shared and meaningful.
Ten years on, the Chinese New Year Community Programme stands as a testament to the strong relationships built over time. It highlights the trust between the industry and the community, and the belief that true progress is measured not only by infrastructure or economic milestones, but by the lives uplifted along the journey.
