Pengerang, 17 June 2016 – PETRONAS, in the spirit of Ramadan, fêted the community of Taman Bayu Damai in a buka puasa event at the estate's new surau here today.
The annual event this year was attended by at least a quarter of the 3,500 residents who were resettled at the new residential area developed by the State Government.
"We are truly delighted to see PETRONAS staff and Taman Bayu Damai residents come together today for buka puasa and prayers to reflect on the significance of fasting and enjoy the camaraderie as we look forward to the upcoming Aidilfitri festivity," said Project Director for Petrochemical, PETRONAS Refinery and Petrochemical Corporation Sdn Bhd (PRPC), Datuk Nur Iskandar A Samad, who played host for the event.
He was accompanied by Head of Stakeholder, Communications & Risk Management, Puan Anita Azrina A Aziz, and Head of Human Resource Management, Puan Zilfalilah A Aziz.
Prior to the breaking of fast, about 100 underprivileged members from the community, comprising single mothers, senior citizens, orphans and the disabled, received cash donations, courtesy of PETRONAS staff, to help them prepare for the upcoming Hari Raya.
"In the spirit of giving and sharing, our staff had initiated on their own a small fundraising for the less fortunate in Taman Bayu Damai, so that the latter will not be left out of the festive celebration," said Datuk Nur Iskandar.
"Apart from fostering a positive relationship, this event is an opportunity for our company and staff alike to contribute towards the welfare of the surrounding communities in the areas where we operate," he added.
PETRONAS staff and Taman Bayu Damai residents were invited to a tazkirah by Kadi Daerah Kota Tinggi, Tuan As-Syeikh Haji Mohd Fauzi Haji Bachok, before adjourning to buka puasa and Maghrib prayers, followed by Isyak and Tarawih prayers.Also present at the event were the village heads of Kampung Teluk Empang, Encik Abd Hamid Md Ali; Kampung Jawa, Encik Md Ariffin Hj Nahar and Kampung Sungai Kapal, Encik Ismail Jono; as well as the Chairman of Koperasi Pengerang Jaya Johor Berhad (KOPEJA), Encik Zebree Hashim.
