Overview of the Oil and Gas Development in Malaysia Upstream
MPM is responsible to drive resource maturation and monetisation of more than 125 oil fields (STOIIP of > 32 Bstb) and 149 gas fields (GIIP of > 150.2 Tcf) through advanced subsurface studies and effective development project execution and delivery.

Monetising resources through technology
In striving for the sustainable development of Malaysia’s oil and gas resources, PETRONAS continues to collaborate with its partners to discover and develop value-adding technologies for Deepwater Wells, High Pressure High Temparature (HPHT), Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) / Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) / Small Field, Contaminants & Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and PETRONAS Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (PFLNG) / Infrastructure / Well.
Among notable achievements monetising resources through the leveraging:-
Enhancing project management efficiency
MPM continuously strengthens the shaping and enabling of roles in enhancing the sources values and efficient project delivery through strategic initiatives and collaborative platforms.

Gumusut-Kakap is Malaysia’s biggest deepwater producing field
Did you know?
To date, 116 Deepwater wells have been drilled thus far in Malaysia. At present, there are more than 6 BBOE (billion barrel of oil equivalent) waiting to be discovered in deepwater Malaysia, with the highest yet-to-find in Sabah, followed by Sarawak. This indicated that there are more opportunities in deepwater to be unlocked.
