PCG Supports Community Wellbeing Equipping Locals With First Aid Skills
Kertih, 26 August 2018– PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) continues its efforts to empower local communities by providing them fundamental first aid skills through its annual First Aider for Every Home (FAiEH) programme, here today.

PCG, through its subsidiary PETRONAS Chemicals Ammonia Sdn Bhd (PCASB) today hosted the fourth and final FAiEH programme for 2018. The programme is focused on equipping members of the community with first aid knowledge and skills, to be able to respond quickly and effectively during an emergency situation.

Chief Executive Officer of PCASB, Encik Ahmad Zaiyan Mohd Kassim said, “We aim to enhance the quality of life of the local communities within our operation vicinity via different outreach programmes.”

He added, “Accidents can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. First aid skills are important for everyone including children, to have, in order to be more effective during emergencies. Having basic first aid skills can improve a victim’s chances of survival and recovery”.

“The FAiEH programme has proven to benefit the communities especially school children as it ensures that they can help others whenever there is an emergency situation that calls for immediate attention,” he concluded.

FAiEH 2018, a PETRONAS initiative, was first introduced in 2012. Last year, the FAiEH programme was reintroduced and branded under the PCG’s Planting Tomorrow initiative, which focuses on sustainable CSR effort for the community through capabilities and skills development.

Following positive feedback from last year’s participants, the FAiEH programme continued and expanded in 2018 to include identified groups of participants, mainly school and kindergarten teachers around Kertih and Paka. Skills they had acquired in the programme include first aid techniques, being able to identify and handle venomous animals, treating injured people, as well as help choking or out of breath victims by giving them cardiopulmonary resuscitation or CPR.

Over 200 people from the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) and pre-school teachers participated in the FAiEH programme this year. In 2017, more than 160 participants took part in the programme in Paka, Terengganu.

Since its first implementation in Kertih, FAiEH has benefited more than 400 people. This number is expected to increase with the continuation of the program.
