We are dedicated to creating long-term value for the local communities where we operate through our Community Engagement and Social Impact Programmes. Addressing diverse community needs is the cornerstone of our efforts toward social development and sustainable support.
This approach builds trust and confidence among our investors, customers, employees, and the wider public through meaningful, lasting initiatives.
By aligning our efforts with stakeholder expectations, we enhance the effectiveness of our programmes and meet the needs of our communities. Our commitment to creating long-lasting positive impacts affirms our role in fostering relationships and empowering communities to thrive.
We aim to make a positive impact on the local communities where we operate, guided by the PETRONAS Social Impact Management Framework. Our social impact programmes are focused on three key pillars: PETRONAS Powering Knowledge (Education), PETRONAS Uplifting Lives (Community Well-being and Development) and PETRONAS Planting Tomorrow (Environment). By emphasising these pillars, our framework ensures that our initiatives create meaningful impacts and remain aligned with our broader sustainability goals.
We take a hands-on approach to our social impact programmes, actively engaging in initiatives that create tangible change through employee volunteerism and collaborations with non-governmental organisations and local government agencies. We will continue to focus on activations that promote sustainable livelihoods and conserve the environment, in alignment with the PETRONAS Sustainability Agenda. Our goal is to drive initiatives that enhance capabilities, skills, and self-sufficiency to create lasting, positive change.
To promote responsible plastic use, we also developed a multilingual Plastic, Sustainability & You Education (PSYE) module for primary and secondary schools.

We conduct chemical safety awareness programmes in schools via our Safe Handling of Chemicals for School (SHOC4School) initiative. This programme provides students, teachers, and laboratory assistants with knowledge and training on proper chemical management and basic first aid. Additionally, our subsidiary, Perstorp, supports a technical high school in Sweden specialising in science and technology. They also partner with local chemical companies and communities to support a local science centre, inspiring children and students about chemistry.
Our Community Upskilling Programme is a strategic initiative that empowers communities by enhancing their skills and capabilities. This programme equips participants with practical, innovative skills to improve livelihoods, promote sustainability, and address local challenges. Through workshops, training sessions, and hands-on projects, we foster self-reliance and encourage innovation, which contributes to long-term community development.
Our flagship Be Green programme promotes responsible plastic use and handling by educating communities and students about waste management and the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle). As part of this programme, we conduct competitions and work with students for STEM learning and waste management competitions. We have also expanded this programme to international locations, such as Indonesia and Thailand, through our subsidiaries PT PCM Kimia Indonesia and PCM (Thailand) Co. Ltd, extending its impact to a wider audience.
We also preserve and restore vital mangrove ecosystems through our Tree/Mangrove Conservation and Rehabilitation initiatives. Our ecocare programme focuses on reforesting and rehabilitating ecologically sensitive habitats and operates an ecocare Environmental Education Centre (EEC), which serves as a learning and advocacy hub for students and community members. We partner with Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) to enhance the EEC and its programme to enhance our conservation efforts.
