Natural Gas
A cleaner and more efficient energy solution
Natural gas is a type of fossil fuel formed millions of years ago from the remains of plants and animals deep beneath the earth’s surface. Today, it has an increasingly important role in the global transition to a low-carbon energy world.
While oil and coal are still the most consumed fossil fuels for energy, natural gas is fast becoming a significant and substantial alternative. While still not as clean as wind or solar energy, natural gas is the cleanest and most energy efficient fossil fuel available, generating the least amount of carbon dioxide. It’s also the most versatile, having multiple uses which include generating electricity, cooking, powering manufacturing plants and fuelling transportation. It also serves as raw material for a range of products.
According to the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) latest annual report, global demand for natural gas surged by 4.6% in 2018 - its fastest annual pace since 2010 - and will continue to grow over the next five years.
As a low-carbon solution for the power and industrial sectors, natural gas has huge potential for the creation of a cleaner future and is an essential part of Malaysia’s energy mix.
In line with our country’s commitment to the Paris Agreement, PEGT is exploring innovative solutions that can help potential customers in Malaysia meet its future energy needs.
