‘PCG Be Green’ Campaign
Bintulu, 7 September – PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) through its wholly-owned subsidiary, ASEAN Bintulu Fertilizer Sdn Bhd (ABF), today held the finale of its annual ‘PCG Be Green’ campaign here, as part of its efforts to promote responsible use of plastics and encourage ‘green behavior’ towards achieving a sustainable future.
The one-month campaign saw members of the communities around its operations in Bintulu, participating in talks on the usage of plastics as well as anti-littering by the Malaysian Plastics Manufacturers Association (MPMA) and Bintulu District Authority, respectively. They also participated in a host of other activities such as talks on PCG products, essay competition, mural painting and tree planting.
Speaking about the programme, PCG Managing Director/CEO, Datuk Sazali Hamzah said: “PCG is a producer of the main component in the production of plastics. We took it upon ourselves to champion this effort to educate the people, especially the communities around our areas of operation, to be savvy plastics users for the benefit of our well-being, as well as for the environment and future generation.”
“It is almost impossible to live without plastics in this day and age. Therefore, educating the people, especially the younger generation on the proper use of plastics, is crucial to protect and preserve the environment,” he concluded.
This year, about 1,000 high-school students and community members in Bintulu participated in the ‘PCG Be Green’ campaign. The finale, organised at SMK As-Syakirin, was officiated by Bintulu Resident, Mr Jack Aman Luat and Chief Executive Officer of ABF, Ir Lucas Takip.
The campaign started in 2013 as the PCG 3R Campaign - Reduce, Reuse & Recycle, to inculcate environmental awareness and understanding of plastics usage, as well as in support of the Government’s efforts to promote 3R, cleanliness, and the reduction of 40 per cent in terms of emission intensity, by the year 2020.
