Investigation and Restoration Efforts in Lawas Commenced

PETRONAS wishes to inform that an investigation team comprising representatives from PETRONAS and relevant authorities have started investigation into the cause of the recent incident at the Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP). 

Efforts to restore the pipeline have also commenced with the deployment of a team to the incident area to carry out required assessment before undertaking the remedial works. 

In addition, PETRONAS engages the communities around the incident area to provide them information on the current situation following the incident. 

The fire incident at the SSGP occurred around 2.00am on 10 June in the district of Lawas, Sarawak, about 135km from the Sabah Oil & Gas Terminal (SOGT) in Kimanis, Sabah. 

To date, no injuries or casualties were reported and the incident did not affect any of the communities along the pipeline, the closest of which are located 10km away from the incident area. 

With the activation of the pipeline automatic safety system, the fire was under control and finally extinguished without it being further escalated. 

All necessary measures have been taken to ensure that the incident area is secure and safe. 

PETRONAS adheres at all time to stringent safety measures in line with international standards at all of its operations.
