PETRONAS Eases Kota Tinggi Water Woes with Water Supply to Sungai Lebam Dam

2016 Media Release - 14 Mar

Kota Tinggi, 14 March 2016 – PETRONAS’ Raw Water Supply Project to RAPID, or Projek Air Mentah RAPID (PAMER), began channelling raw water to Sungai Lebam dam here, today.

The commencement of raw water flow from PAMER to the Sungai Lebam dam is expected to help ease water woes in Kota Tinggi and Pengerang as it will increase and maintain water level of the reservoir.

PAMER is expected to supply between 40 to 60 million liters per day (MLD) of water from Sungai Seluyut to the Sungai Lebam dam. Once fully commissioned in mid-2016, PAMER will also supply 230 MLD of water to the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Pengerang, Johor.

This marks another significant milestone for the overall progress of the PIC project which is expected to achieve its first refinery start-up by 2019.

To commemorate this achievement, a ceremony officiated by the State Secretary of Johor, YB Dato' Haji Ismail Karim, was held at the PAMER project site. Also present were Johor State Executive Council for Public Works, Rural and Regional Development, YB Datuk Ir Hasni Haji Mohammad; Kota Tinggi District Officer, Haji Mohd Noorazam Dato’ Haji Osman; and Vice President and Venture Director of PIC, Juniwati Rahmat Hussin.

PAMER is a fast-track project, which will be completed in 23 months. A project of similar size and complexity would usually take approximately 30 to 36 months.

The PAMER project is one of the six Associated Facilities that are critical to support and ensure the development of PIC project is on track.

The project involves the development of several main facilities namely an intake station, a dam, a booster pumping station, a terminal reservoir as well as an 88km pipeline.
