2015 Media Release - 26 Oct

SOUTH KOREA, 26 October 2015 – PETRONAS has clocked a 15 million man hours without any Lost Time Injury (LTI) achievement in their construction of one of the world’s first floating liquefaction plants, the PETRONAS Floating LNG1 (PFLNG1) in Okpo, South Korea.

With more than 95 per cent overall progress in its construction, PETRONAS together with the consortium leading the engineering and construction of PFLNG1, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME) and Technip commemorated the milestone with a ceremony held at the DSME shipyard.

“We have come a long way and this achievement is something all in PETRONAS, DSME and Technip can be proud of. We have proven our commitment in pushing the boundaries of technology and engineering and in line, we too have demonstrated our commitment to the assurance of safety as our top priority,” said Vice President of Global LNG Projects, Adnan Zainol Abidin on behalf of PETRONAS.

Achieving 15 million man hours without any LTI is a continued focus by PETRONAS to reinforce the company’s commitment to Zero Tolerance (ZeTo) Rules. The strict compliance ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner and any non-compliance is not tolerated. With ZeTo, “Everybody goes home safely”.

The first floating LNG facility for PETRONAS will make possible the liquefaction, production and offloading processing of natural gas in the Kanowit gas field, 180 kilometers offshore Bintulu, Sarawak. PFLNG1, with a capacity of 1.2 million tons per annum (mtpa) is expected to commission in early 2016.

PETRONAS’ LNG business commands a significant international market share; owing to three decades of experience and proven capability along the LNG value chain. PETRONAS is committed to continue strengthening its market position and preserving its reputation as a preferred LNG supplier distinctive for its quality and reliability.
