Kuala Lumpur, 5 May 2016 – PETRONAS’ wholly-owned subsidiary, Pengerang Power Sdn Bhd (Pengerang Power), today signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to supply electricity to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) from its co-generation plant within the Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Johor.
Pengerang Power is expected to commence commercial operation and supply 400MW to TNB beginning from 1 June 2017, to be followed by an additional 200MW from 1 January 2019 onwards. The contract is for a period of 21 years.
This PPA for the sale of electricity from a co-generation facility is the first of its kind in Malaysia.
The co-generation plant is one of six associated facilities being developed within the PIC. Apart from generating power, it will also produce steam for consumption within the PIC. Inclusive of a back-up capacity to ensure reliability of supply, the co-generation plant will have a nominal capacity of 1,729MW.
This plant will be one of the biggest co-generation power plants in the region, using Siemens’ latest H-class gas turbine technology together with a unique dual steam turbine configuration to ensure highest efficiency.
