KUCHING, 25 May 2016 – Today, PETRONAS commenced its Kaamatan and Gawai festive campaign with the launch of a specially produced webfilm titled “Renai”.
The webfilm, set in the jungle of Sarawak, and against the scenic view of Mount Kinabalu in neighbouring Sabah, is named after its main character, a little girl called Renai. It is an inspiring story of her growing up and how she appreciates and values the struggles and sacrifices made by her parents to ensure a brighter future for her. This story of gratitude and hope encapsulates the true spirit of the Kaamatan and Gawai festivals, which celebrate the fruits of hard labour and determination invested each year into delivering a bountiful harvest.
PETRONAS’ Senior General Manager of Group Strategic Communications, Zahariah Abd Rahman said, “For the past two decades, PETRONAS has been bringing Malaysians together through our festive communications. With our latest Kaamatan and Gawai webfilm, we hope to not only capture the rich and unique essence of the harvest festivals in Sabah and Sarawak, but what this tradition and the festivals mean to all Malaysians.”
“PETRONAS draws inspiration from every Malaysian as each one of us has an interesting story to be told. The story of Renai reflects our nation’s diversity as a true melting pot of cultures, and the social cohesion among Malaysians,” she added.
Viewers will be able to watch this webfilm starting from 26 May on PETRONAS’ official channel www.petronasofficial.com. A 60-second television commercial version of the webfilm will be aired from 29 May onwards.
Apart from the webfilm, a series of exciting on-ground activities will take place during the Kaamatan and Gawai celebrations. A lucky winner from the “Hitz.fm Kaamatan & Gawai Experience with PETRONAS” contest will be given the opportunity to experience the harvest festivals in Sabah and Sarawak together with three family members or friends.
PETRONAS hopes the four-day all-expense trip will provide the winners an unforgettable experience and an in-depth understanding of the true meaning of Kaamatan and Gawai festivals.
