KUALA LUMPUR, 26 Oct 2023 – PETRONAS has formed an Integrity Alliance with its vendors to push for a greater governance and integrity culture within the oil and gas industry in line with the company’s policy of zero-tolerance against any form of corruption.
The Integrity Alliance Ceremony with the theme ‘Fortifying Trust through Proactive Integrity’ was officiated by PETRONAS President & Group CEO, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik and witnessed by MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki and MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention), Datuk Seri Norazlan Mohd Razali.
The alliance calls for proactive and pre-emptive measures to deter bribery, corruption, and fraud via voluntary exchange of information. Early knowledge of corrupt practices or potential acts of bribery will enable PETRONAS and vendors to take the necessary action in accordance with their respective processes and provide early alerts to MACC.
At the ceremony, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik emphasized that the oil and gas industry had a shared responsibility to create a culture of integrity.
He added, “PETRONAS is very encouraged by the strong response from our industry partners in coming together as an alliance to stop normalizing unethical behaviours. Together, PETRONAS and its partners are committed to create an environment that empowers people to speak up and do the right thing in combating corruption while always upholding integrity. United as part of this alliance, we will continue to send a clear and resounding message: that the industry has zero tolerance for corruption.”
Tan Sri Azam Baki said in his keynote address, “The MACC stands shoulder to shoulder with PETRONAS, offering our unwavering support. We extend an open invitation to all oil and gas players, large and small, to join this noble endeavour. To successfully eradicate bribery and corruption, we must be united in our proactive fight against it. As the saying goes, “prevention is better than cure.” Active deterrence is the shield that safeguards our industry’s reputation and prosperity. Passive observance is no longer an option; active deterrence is the path we must tread.”
The event also saw a dialogue session between Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, Datuk Seri Norazlan and President SLB Asia Amy Chua where they provided insights and experiences in building a culture of integrity within their respective organisations.
