PETRONAS welcomes the month of Ramadan with the launch of a nationwide Iftar ceremony through its Sentuhan Kasih PETRONAS programme, giving donations to the deserving while breaking-fast with local communities in seven states across the country.
In the spirit of sharing and togetherness, the ceremony known as Majlis Iftar Perdana PETRONAS Bersama Masyarakat, was held at selected mosques and a PETRONAS facility across the seven states. The first ceremony was held on 20 May 2018, at Masjid Kg Punggai in Johor, followed by Masjid Zaid bin Haritsah in Kuala Lumpur, Masjid Ar-Rahmah in Kedah, Masjid Imam Abdullah in Sabah and Masjid Assyakirin in Sarawak on 26 May 2018.
Subsequent ceremonies will be held at Masjid Tengku Mizan in Kertih, Terengganu on 31 May 2018, and the Malaysian Refining Company Sdn Bhd (MRCSB) in Melaka on 5 June 2018.
Approximately 1,000 recipients comprising the asnaf group were selected by committee members of the mosques to each receive a cash donation ranging from RM100 to RM200 at the ceremonies. The donations were driven and collected by Badan Kebajikan Islam PETRONAS (BAKIP) through a group-wide donation drive among PETRONAS' staff.
PETRONAS Senior General Manager, Group Strategic Communications, Zahariah (Liza) Abdul Rahman, said: "Sentuhan Kasih PETRONAS is one of PETRONAS' key CSR programmes aimed at contributing to society. We hope that the contribution will help ease the communities' burden as they prepare for the festive celebrations.
"The programme also aims to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism among PETRONAS' staff and at the same time encourages interaction and friendship with the local communities," she said.
Since 2005, PETRONAS has embarked on several community initiatives including Sentuhan Kasih programmes aimed at contributing to the well-being of society.
