KUALA LUMPUR, 22 May 2023 - PETRONAS has released its Kaamatan festive film ‘Mimpi Padi’ that delves into the true meaning of the enchanting heritage and culture behind the celebration. The film portrays a heartfelt family story shining a spotlight on the legacy of hill rice cultivation practices in the vibrant land of Sabah.
‘Mimpi Padi’ unravels the story of Osindak, a young Sabahan bearing a Kadazan-Dusun name that means the 'brightness of the future’. A high-achieving university student, Osindak struggles between charting her own path and continuing her family's hill rice cultivation practices.
After avoiding her grandmother for many semesters, Osindak reluctantly heads home for the festival. However, the long-awaited reunion turns tense when Osindak refuses to enjoy the traditional dishes she is served. Later in her room, she hears a strange voice calling out to her, setting the stage for a tale of self-discovery and re-connection.
