Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP)
is one of Malaysia’s leading institutions of higher learning, nestled in a 400-hectare (1,000 acres) site within the quaint yet developing locale of Bandar Seri Iskandar in the state of Perak.
Established on 10 January 1997 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of PETRONAS, UTP offers a wide range of industry-relevant engineering, science and technology programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
It also conducts extensive research activities focusing on six niche areas: self-sustainable buildings, transport infrastructure, health analytics, hydrocarbon recovery, contaminant management, and autonomous systems. These are carried out in collaboration with PETRONAS, as well as other institutions and industry players.
In just 26 years since its establishment, UTP has received numerous national and international recognitions. For example, the university has been steadily climbing the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings since making its debut in 2018. In 2023, it was ranked 63rd, up a staggering 32 spots from 95th in 2022 — which effectively makes UTP Malaysia’s top university.

The Malaysian Maritime Academy
(Akademi Laut Malaysia, or ALAM) is Asia’s leading provider of maritime education and training, with a fully-equipped 68-acre campus located in the pristine surroundings of Kuala Sungai Baru in the state of Melaka, overlooking the busy Straits of Malacca.
Established in 1977 as the Malaysian Maritime Training Centre, ALAM today is fully owned by MISC Berhad, a PETRONAS subsidiary and one of the world’s largest shipping conglomerates.
The academy offers a complete spectrum of maritime courses, supported by modern teaching facilities along with the extensive experience and expertise of its full-time local and expatriate instructors who have both academic and professional qualifications. ALAM is therefore the maritime academy of choice for young school leavers in Malaysia and abroad who dream of a rewarding future as professionals in the maritime industry.
