KUALA LUMPUR, 5 October 2025 – PETRONAS, through its flagship Powering Knowledge programme, awarded education sponsorships to over 650 qualified recipients in a ceremony here today.
The 2024 SPM school leavers, who come from diverse backgrounds, received full sponsorships to pursue studies in fields such as chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, marketing, and other relevant courses at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) as well as other top local and international institutions in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
The selection process was conducted rigorously from nearly 9,000 applications nationwide, based on academic excellence, leadership potential, and active involvement in extracurricular activities.
PETRONAS Senior Vice President and Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Ruslan Islahudin, presented the awards to the recipients, joined by PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management, Datuk Ir Bacho Pilong.
In his speech, Ruslan said, “This sponsorship opens doors to a world of possibilities. It paves the way to leading universities, both locally and globally. It expands horizons, deepens knowledge and equips individuals to contribute meaningfully to society.
“This year alone, PETRONAS has committed RM319 million to support deserving students. This reflects our focus on building a strong education ecosystem, providing sponsorships, and creating pathways to employment.”
The education sponsorship is part of PETRONAS Powering Knowledge initiatives and reflects its ongoing commitment towards education in supporting Malaysia’s human capital development. Since its inception in 1975, it has benefited more than 40,000 Malaysian students with an estimated investment value of about RM4.2 billion.
Powering Knowledge supports PETRONAS’ Sustainability Agenda and aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 by developing future leaders, equipped to make a lasting social impact.
